Hawthorn Liuwu Paste is made of Chinese medicinal materials, such as Chinese hawthorn, fried germinated barley, Chinese yam, membrane of chicken gizzards and so on, which are good for the spleen and stomach. Natural low-sweet maltose is also added to make the paste nourishing but not greasy.
According to the TCM classic “Ben Cao Jing Ji Zhu” (Variorum of the Classic of Materia Medica), hawthorn is beneficial in improving appetite and reducing stomach discomfort. Blended with ingredients such as Chinese yam, which can nourish the stomach, and red dates, which can nourish the blood and soothe the nerves, the paste has a sweet and sour flavour that is popular with children.
