In the time when innovation and customisation are emphasised, social environment rapidly changes and competition grows fiercely, it has become a big challenge for traditional brands to develop new products and services continuously while maintaining the spirit of corporate craftsmanship, and keep up with the pace of times. “GIOROSTAN Leather Shoe Shop” has come into existence over 25 years in Macao. Mainly engaged in the retail and wholesale of men's leather shoes, it also provides handmade and personalised leather shoes, creating irreplaceable fashionable shoes for customers.

Accompanying the customer in his journey through wind and rain

Leather shoes are like the second face of a gentleman, and a symbol of his style. Mr Chang Wai Lap, the second-generation owner “GIOROSTAN Shoe Shop” says that the shop was established by his father in early 1990s. At first, it mainly sold sports shoes. Then gradually it changed its focus to leather shoes. Nowadays, it provides the service of customised handmade leather shoes for men. He points out that their tailored leather shoes can be simple, retro or unorthodox since they are produced according to customers' preferences. The brand also hope that customers can show their own unique style. Using high-quality Italian leather materials, tailored to the size of the customers' feet, with every effort made to each of the details of the shoes the shoemaker is fully devoted to making durable and stylish leather shoes.

Stand up to challenge and widen customer base

In recent years, the footwear market has become increasingly saturated. Mr Chang Wai Lap also admits that the business is facing many challenges. In order to expand business, his shop became one of the exhibitors at the “Macao Ideas” Exhibition Centre and took an active part in a series of events organised by IPIM such as the “Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF)”, the “Dynamic Macao Week”. The brand took these opportunities to promote brands to buyers and agents at home and abroad and explore business opportunities. It even received orders from large leisure enterprises in Macao through IPIM’s business matching service. In addition, in order to expand the customer base, the company gradually expanded from offline operation to online, by joining large e-commerce platforms in Mainland China, setting up Facebook page and Instagram account for online marketing. These new measures allowed them to attract many new customers from overseas markets.

“GIOROSTAN Shoe Shop” is rooted in Macao. It has a local workshop to carry out leather shoes coloring, polishing and other processes. A base is set up in Guangzhou to take care of wholesale and exportation. In view of operating costs such as rental, human resources and logistics, the next step of “GIOROSTAN Shoe Shop” is expected to launch a new branch in Hengqin in the future.

The sudden hit of novel coronavirus epidemic has brought catastrophic damage to different sectors in Macao. Mr Chang Wai Lap reveals that their business volume has slumped by 60 to 70%. Even when facing unprecedented challenges, Mr Chang Wai Lap remains composed and gets prepared for the future. He plans to launch women's shoes with French brands in the middle of the year and actively expand to the female shoes market. In response to the high demand for customisation, the shop introduces 3D foot scanner, to collect data of customer's foot shape. The data will be sent to customers via WeChat mini programme and customers can choose the color sand styles of shoes, so as to improve the precision of customisation and customer satisfaction. As the second-generation owner of an old local shop, he talks ambitiously about his future development and deployment. The key of how “GIOROSTAN Shoe Shop” withstands great challenges amid intense competition are perhaps "Perseverance" and "Innovation" key.
