2021-06-03

Founded in 2005, SIM-Sociedade Industrial de Macao, Lda. has put its heart into creating a first-class coffee brand by building a leading Asian modern coffee factory in Macao and introducing international standard coffee roasting technology. The products manufactured by the SIM coffee factory are now available in many supermarkets, restaurants and hotels across Mainland China.

Lending visibility to local coffee brands via business opportunities in Macao

“We hope that SIM can expand beyond Macao with famous ‘Made in Macao’ and ‘Macao Brand’ products, so that it can introduce local coffee brands to more people”, said Ip Sio Man, Managing Director of the SIM Exporting quality Macao coffee to the Mainland is the mutual goal of Ip , and his initial partners from Portugal. The company has chosen Macao as the starting point for its coffee business and plans to gradually develop the Greater China market through Macao, since it considers Macao to be the best platform for exchanges between Portuguese-speaking countries and China.

“Because the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) has continuously organised various economic and trade fairs, coupled with the assistance of IPIM’s six representative offices in the Mainland, more Mainland enterprises have come to know this Macao brand – SIM Coffee. For example, delegations from Foshan and Qingdao have visited the SIM coffee factory in Macao and the response was very positive. Thanks to the events organised by IPIM, we have the opportunity to make the acquaintance of businesspeople and government delegations around the region. Regardless of whether any business deal can ultimately be made, this is still a good advertising opportunity for us”, said Ip. He believes that IPIM’s Macao Ideas is not only a window to display “Made in Macao”, “Macau Brand”, and “Macau Design” products, but also a platform that provides Macao companies with more development opportunities. By actively participating in a variety of economic and trade fairs organised by IPIM, especially business matching sessions, the company can gain opportunities to negotiate with its Mainland counterparts and effectively promote itself to a certain extent.

Satisfying customers’ tastes with a close eye on coffee market trends

“Making distinctive coffee that satisfies customers’ tastes” Ip said is the primary objective of SIM. The company applies strict standards from material selection to product sales: Brazilian premium green coffee beans are selected and coffee is freshly produced in batches every day in the Macao factory certified with ISO9001, FSSC22000 and HACCP international standards; the SIM factory is built with professional warehousing and storage facilities, and is equipped with its own laboratory and tasting room to enhance quality control and ensure that the coffee is roasted to perfection so that customers can rest assured and be satisfied. In the meantime, to satisfy the palate of different customers, SIM has launched three house coffee brands targeting different markets: the iMO series for the Mainland market, and the OLA series for the Hong Kong and Macao markets. The Estrela series, launched in recent years and specially formulated for the taste of young people, has been well received by the market. Ip has high hopes for the future development of the company because the coffee market in Mainland China has entered a stage of rapid growth in recent years, and hopefully this is an opportunity to introduce Macao coffee brands to more people.
