Stardust Journey: Bringing Fascinating Colours and Patterns into Life

2020-11-16

It has become a trend for people to showcase their taste and individuality through unique products. After Ms On Chi Weng finished her study of textile and pattern design in the UK, she came back to Macao and founded “Stardust Journey Company Limited”, mainly selling household products and textiles with original patterns using a different combination of colours, integrating the art of colour and patterns into life.

Enthusiasm for pattern design turning into a start-up

In order to realise her dream to be a designer, Ms On decided to study textile and pattern design, which she had always loved, in the UK. However, when she came back to Macao after graduating, she found that there was little demand for her profession and it was not easy to find a job that was completely relevant. But it did not stop her enthusiasm for pattern design. In 2016, Ms On decided to start an online shop, taking an active part in a wide range of cultural creative markets and activities, from which she managed to expand her customer base; in 2018, she opened a physical shop in Rua do Pato with her business partner Leong Sin Teng, which mainly provides handicrafts, coffee and workshops.

Each product is exclusively designed

The brand philosophy of Stardust Journey is “integrating colourful patterns into life”. It is characterised by rich colours and delicately hand drawn strokes, bringing a strong visual impact into the design of household items and even clothing, including silk scarves, shoes, carpets, fabric furniture sets, cups, pattern paintings. Silk scarves and shoes are particularly the consumer's favourites. Each Stardust Journey product has a uniquely designed pattern. It is rare to find two products with the same design. Moreover, being born and growing up in Macao, Ms On brings in specific elements of Macao into her design, displaying a unique Macao style with her art.

Under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the accumulated reputation of Stardust Journey has unexpectedly attracted many young people to take part the colour pattern DIY workshops, expanding the brand's potential customer base. As a result, more and more people have more appreciation of the beauty of coloured patterns.

Going global and exploring unique potential development

Due to the time it takes to design patterns and the difficulty of mass production for Stardust Journey products, Ms On admitted that the cost of production is high. In order to increase orders and expand the customer base in different regions, Stardust Journey actively operates online shops, online fan pages, launching products on  third-party E-commerce platforms and frequently launching crossover pattern designed goods with local brands. Stardust Journey was invited by Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) to promote their original products in “Macao Ideas”. It is hoped that by participating in international MICE events to promote the brand, the company can successfully go global from the Macao market for more business opportunities. Stardust Journey’s future plan is to launch in Japan's high-end online hand-made market, so that the brand can lay a good foundation for further development outside Macao.
