Macau Creations: Excellent Creations from Macao

2022-06-07

Macau Creations Limited was founded by Wilson Lam in 2009, an artist who returned to Macao from overseas. In addition to its own original products, Macau Creations also has gathered the creative work of many outstanding designers and artists from Macao and established the first large-scale shop for cultural and creative products and souvenirs in Macao. Today, the company's business covers product development, art curation, MICE event management, marketing, cross-border collaboration and IP licensing.

“Macao Design”: winning acknowledgment and reputation

“Soda panda” is a signature IP role of Macau Creations, which is inspired by the pair of pandas gifted to Macao by China in 2009. Themed on the story of three panda siblings born in Macao, the souvenir collection was created by CEO and Creative Director Wilson Lam. Moreover, he has also launched a series of cultural and creative products with Chinese and Portuguese cultural characteristics, including a series of 12 zodiac “Soda panda” dolls, file folders, coin purses, postcards and stamps, a series of well-designed cups and a series of “Lovely Silk Scarves” in collaboration with local artists. Some of the award-winning products, such as the "Purple Qi Coming from the East" Lai See envelope set, which is rich in Chinese cultural elements, have made "Macao Designs" more widely known. Over the years, Macau Creations has opened shops in various tourist attractions such as Macao Tower, Macao International Airport, the Historic Centre of Macao, Rua do Cunha in Taipa and Cotai, attracting many tourists to visit and purchase them.

Win-win collaboration of “Macao Brand”: 1+1 > 2

Macau Creations has also collaboration with October Fifth Bakery. The packaging design incorporates the story of the three siblings of “Soda panda”, bringing the traditional souvenir brand to life and increasing the exposure of “Soda panda” through the large number of food orders.

Expanding to Mainland market despite pandemic

Macau Creations has been promoting its brand through various MICE events organised by Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). In addition, the company has in 2019 reached an agreement with an enterprise of a sports theme park in Chengdu, Sichuan to provide support for the branding project "Cultural and Creative Industries + Sports". Lam reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it more challenging to expand the market. However, he has confidence in the pandemic prevention and control measures in the Mainland and looks forward to a smooth start of the project. In the future, he hopes Macao SAR Government will strengthen its support for SMEs in Macao, so that more "Macao Brands" and "Macao Designs" can go global.
