City Gourmet Company: Transforming from “Central Kitchen” to “Made in Macao” Brand
The City Gourmet Company Limited is dedicated to providing safe and sanitary “central kitchen” services for over 11 years since its establishment in Macao. Featuring a factory with well-equipped and centralised production facilities, the company implements a complete set of control measures from ingredient procurement, food processing to delivery, winning a good reputation for its products in terms of quality and safety. In recent years, the company has promoted “Made in Macao” packaged foods, and extended its business scope into the retail sector.

Gradually Expanding Business Scope to Adapt to Social Development
Since the liberalisation of Macao gaming industry, the booming gaming sector has driven the development of various local industries. Considering large resorts’ enormous demand for staff meals, the City Gourmet Company provides food processing services to meet these demands. According to Ieong Kin Fong, director of the company, “at the beginning, the company mainly provided services for canteens, from preliminary food processing, semi-finished product processing to ready-to-eat products. Later, the company gradually expanded its business scope through raising its competitiveness in terms of ingredient procurement price and launching its own fleet of trucks to deal with cross-border logistics and delivery between Macao and Hong Kong’.
Ieong believes that the company’s advantage lies in its systematic operation based on standardised production, quality testing and management, while making use of the expertise of staff in the Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, which enables the company to ensure product quality and food safety. The company also strives to optimise logistical routes and reduce ingredient costs, thereby alleviating the operational burden on local enterprises, be they of small, medium or large scale, by helping them cut the cost in human resources, logistics and storage.

Promoting “Made in Macao” Brand by Developing Retail Products
To expand the customer base, the City Gourmet Company extended its business scope into the retail market in 2019 and launched its own brand “Eat Plus”. Among the products of the brand, the German pork knuckle has gradually hit the store shelves in leading supermarkets and frozen meat shops in Macao. The pork knuckles are seasoned and cut before being vacuum-packed and frozen for storage. These knuckles are easy to cook as they have been seasoned in advance, popular among households in Macao. Moreover, the Eat Plus’ German Knuckles have obtained the Macao Product Quality Certification (M-Mark) for its strict manufacturing process and sanitary standards, which helps to boost customers’ confidence in the brand. The company plans to carry out research and develop a new series of products in the future, such as sausages and smoked meat.

To intensify the products’ publicity, the City Gourmet Company joined the “Macao Ideas” of the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) in 2020 to display and promote their products. The company plans to participate in more local and mainland’s exhibitions and trade fairs in the future, and invest greater efforts in promotion through social network platforms, hoping to increase the visibility of “Made in Macao” brands among local residents. In addition, the company hopes to explore more potential partners through IPIM’s Online Business Matching Service Platform, in a bid to expand marketing channels and explore business opportunities.
