According to data from the Statistics and Census Service, Macao hosted a record-breaking 1,861 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events in 2025. Nearly half of these events were centred on the “1+4” industries, with high technology and big health the most notable growth, increasing by 48% and 32%, respectively. The number of participants and visitors at these industry-themed events also rose significantly, by 149% and 89%, respectively. These unprecedented figures underscore the close alignment of the MICE industry with the development strategy for an appropriately diversified economy. Through collaborative efforts and pro-active industry expansion, the events have injected substantial momentum into the advancement of major industries such as high technology and big health.
To consolidate and sustain this positive trend, the Macao SAR Government will further enhance the deep integration of the MICE and investment promotion sectors, empowering the advancement of major industries. In 2026, the Macao Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will collaborate closely with the industry to align with national development strategies, enhance the resilience of the MICE industry, and foster its internationalisation, professionalism, and high-quality development. The cluster development of the upstream, midstream, and downstream industrial chains across the four major industries will be promoted through events like the “IEEE Global Communications Conference” and the “2026 Belt and Road Initiative Global Health Forum”. Additionally, IPIM will reinforce local brand exhibitions, such as the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF), and the Global Artificial Intelligence Machines and Electronics Expo, to drive co-ordinated, integrated development of MICE activities between Macao and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin, as well as with other cities in the Greater Bay Area.
At the same time, by leveraging the favourable policies of the SAR government, including initiatives like the construction of the Macao Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park and the establishment of a Government Guidance Fund, the strategy of “attracting investment through exhibitions” will be maximised. Through the implementation of the Investor’s “One-Stop Service” and leveraging the MICE industry efficiency in facilitating the convergence of people, information, capital, and technology, IPIM aims to offer high-technology and big health companies a seamless channel to invest in and establish a presence in Macao.
