The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region is participating in the 3rd China International Import Expo (CIIE), being held in Shanghai until 10 November.
President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech via video link to open on Wednesday (4 November) CIIE and the accompanying Hongqiao International Economic Forum. Macao’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Lei Wai Nong, represented the Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, during the online opening ceremony.
The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) has set up booths in the “Food and Agricultural Products” and “Trade in Services” sections of CIIE. IPIM also arranged to send a 70-strong delegation of local entrepreneurs to the Shanghai event, representing respectively sectors encompassing trading, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions), industry, e-commerce, science and technology, food, hotels and tourism, catering, manufacturing, and professional services.
A total of 42 companies is represented in the Macao delegation, including: firms engaged in the trading of food and drink products either made in Macao, or distributed via Macao and originating from Portuguese-speaking countries; accounting firms; and translation service providers.
Macao’s booth in the “Food and Agricultural Products” section of CIIE covers 600 square metres and in the “Trade in Services” section, Macao has a 60-square-metre booth.
The booth at the “Food and Agricultural Products” section features information displayed across multiple media formats. The topics covered include: Macao’s contributions to the “Belt and Road” initiative and to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; the city’s bridging role between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries; the city’s investment environment; Macao’s trade in services; and the city’s MICE sector. In addition, there are food product-tasting opportunities at the booth. Business-matching services are also available.
