        What makes you add well-cooked abalone to your home cooking? Is it from some secret cooking skills? Or you happen to have plenty of time to prepare something which normally takes hours. Chi Fung Food Company Limited may tell you the answer: because it is convenient and ready-to-eat! Thinking out of the box with exquisite ready-to-serve foods

        Lei Chi Kei, Managing Director of Chi Fung Food Company Limited originally intended to transform her family’s traditional seafood business. As she started to take over the business in 2015, she began planning to turn traditional dried seafood cuisine into high-end instant food products. In the same year, she founded Chi Fung Food Factory with the assistance of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute’s (IPIM), “One Stop Service” by the importing dried abalone and other dried sea food products from South Africa and producing ready-to-eat abalone. Their products have changed the complex, long and old-fashioned cooking process of dried seafood.. Lei said that for normal families, it is too time-consuming and demanding to prepare cuisine such as abalone and bird’s nest in the traditional way. Not everyone is willing to spend long hours cooking. But her company’s  ready-to-eat products can be conveniently prepared  by heating for around an hour, saving time by avoiding long soaking and cooking times.

         

        In the past few years, Chi Fung Food Factory has introduced new products. In addition to the major ready-to-eat abalone series, the company also launched a "ready-to-serve soup" series, instant edible bird's nests and other products. Moreover, with their best-selling ready-to-eat abalone, Chi Fung also launched the crossover product "dried abalone shrimp noodles" with Macao classical brand Wong Chi Kei. The packaging of Chi Fung has gradually adapted a style of simplicity. In the past, the packaging didn’t have a unique style or simply had a photo of the brand representative. The upgraded packaging of Chi Fung’s products helps it stand out among the usual ready-to-serve products.

Strict control on food safety and quality

        In addition to focusing on research and developing a wider range of ready-to-eat products, Chi Fung Food Factory also attaches great importance to food safety and product quality. Each step of the manufacturing goes through strict quality controls, from source, procurement, production to packaging. In recent years, Chi Fung has introduced international standards ISO 9001 quality management system, ISO 22000 food safety management system and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) food safety system, aiming to improve the quality from various aspects, so that consumers can trust and enjoy their food products.

 

        In 2019, Chi Fung Food Company Limited started displaying their goods in IPIM’s product exhibition centre “Macao Ideas” to promote their “Made in Macao” products. In 2020, with the support of “Macao Ideas”, Chi Fung successfully co-operated with a local specialty supermarket to get their ready-to-eat products on the shelves. At the moment, apart from further accumulating local customers, the next step is to expand into the Hong Kong market, while gradually focusing on online sales by promoting their latest products and gift boxes for festivals on social network platforms. With the “Made in Macao” brand positioning, Chi Fung wants more people to know about their exquisite ready-to-serve food produced in Macao.
